The Burnet High School boys soccer team ended the 2026 season with a 4-3 victory against Austin Travis March 13.
The Bulldogs scored three of their four goals in the first 15 minutes of the match thanks to penalty kicks by Genesis Ceron and goalie Aiden Morris, who are both seniors. The third goal was by Nathan Burrell, who was assisted by Marco Campos-Huerta.
The Rebels scored a goal right before halftime.
“The Travis boys were determined on their senior night,” Boorman said. “They put their captain defender at striker and got a goal soon after the half to make it 3-2.”
He noted both teams had scoring opportunities in the final 20 minutes of the match.
Then Campos-Huerta scored on a free kick, his 16th goal of the season to add to his program record. The old record was held by Miguel Valdez, who had 14.
“Marco did what he did all season,” the coach said.
The Rebels scored a meaningless goal in the final five minutes.
Boorman noted other season highlights.
One was ending the home schedule with a 0-0 tie with Austin LBJ March 10 after the Jaguars beat the Bulldogs 7-1 Feb. 21.
Boorman commended the defensive efforts of Ceron, Russell Ramirez, Chris Hernandez, and Junior Flores.
“(They) led a very stout defensive stand leading to a shutout,” he said.
He noted that goalie Aiden Morris “who has played limited minutes in the season stepped up huge and had the game of his career.”
“He made four tremendous saves that led to high fives from his teammates and applause from the crowd,” the coach said.
Offensively, the Bulldogs were close to scoring.
Campos-Huerta hit the post “on a fingertip save from the keeper,” Boorman said.
Jose Rios, Alfredo Jaramillo and Ricardo Flores also had shots that were very close to going in.
“A stellar improvement from the first showing,” the coach said. “We showed that when we play together with purpose and desire, we should have been playoff contenders this season as this LBJ team is the second best team in the district of 11 teams. I’m very proud of the boys for their efforts.”
Other team highlights include leading Class 6A San Antonio Taft 1-0 at halftime and coming back to beat Uvalde 5-3 both at the Kerrville Showcase in early January, competing in Georgetown Independent School District’s Governor’s Cup showcase for the first time, site of the state tournament, tying Class 4A Division II state champion Austin Achieve 1-1 Feb. 6, and collecting more than 425 toys and books for the Hill Country Children’s Advocacy Center.
“This season has been a true test of our patience,” Boorman said. “We have great young talent, but have been plagued by injuries, illnesses, and unforeseen circumstances. Each boy got better physically, spiritually and emotionally as they played a sport that they love. It was an honor coaching them this season.”
